Beyond Surprise, Malta
For most of the Chinese people, Malta is an unfamiliar name. In the beginning I was just searching for tickets on sale randomly in the website of Vueling Airline. Then I found this small island country in Mediterranean Sea. Since it was not a famous tourist destination for Chinese, I’d like to be the first one to discover the land. Luckily, a friend joined my trip this time.
Though it was February, the climate was quite mild and warm. Buses connected every corner of the island. When I arrived at the capital Valletta, it was midday. Surprise, the food was very similar to Italian one. The city was a fortress so it is very small even nowadays. Most of the buildings were built in Renaissance and has hundreds years of history. No doubt as a stop of the expansion of Catholic, grand churches can be found everywhere. Especially the arrival day happened to a festival, Saint Paul Day. How could I know it before! Streets were decorated with red banners and people were carrying a statue of a God while the music was playing. During the evening, my friend and I took a walk around the city. Then by ferry, we headed to the city Sliema in front of Valletta.
Malta is also famous for its ocean. The second day we went for the Blue Grotto. Unfortunately it began to rain. So we had to wait for a while. When it was smaller, we decided to take a boat to see all the caves on the coast. Even in rainy days, the water was still blue and clear. How I wish it was summer then I would have the chance to dive. On the boat we even went through the grotto. Sadly, I didn’t take a wonderful photo because just two months later it collapsed due to power of the nature. On the way back, we visited Mdina castle. It’s the centre of the island and before Valletta, the capital lied here. It wasn’t like Valletta which faced to the sea, instead, overlook the entire country from the top.
The the last day, I visited a Tarxien temple near Valletta. It wasn’t like the traditional Greek temple which should be rectangle. Out of imagination, it was irregular with semicircular on the edge. On the stone, curves could be still recognised clearly. Like Italy, this country owned a glorious Greek and Roman civilisation, slept in the Dark Age and welcomed a new page in Renaissance and Baroque time. While I was studying cultural heritage, I couldn’t help immerse into thinking. Before going back, I walked into the church again and gazed at the sculptures and paintings. Religion is such a great power. It controls people’s mind, dominates territories and creates art. I’m a non-religious person, but I always want to be a religious learner.
Hopefully I can come back again in summer. During the day I’d like to swim and dive into the blue meanwhile I will wander around Valletta to enjoy its timeless beauty. This trip is absolutely beyond surprise. Both culture and nature are down to Malta. For me, its just a perfection.
TIPS:
- I recommend to stay longer time to enjoy the whole country. It’s beautiful and cost of living quite low.
- Summer it’s hot and sunny while winter is mild and a little bit of rainy. Mostly people come in summer so Spring can be a good choice.
- Everyone speaks English!

Malta, Más que Una Sorpresa
Para los asiáticos, Malta es un país desconocido. Cuando estuve mirando el web de Vueling, buscaba las destinaciones con el billete en oferta. De repente Malta saltó. Como soy una persona quien quiere probar y descubrir tierras nuevas, con curiosidad decidí visitar la isla mediterránea. Esta vez fui de viaje con una amiga.
En febrero, el clima fue muy moderado. En Malta, todo se conectaba con autobús. Llevando ilusión, llegue a la capital Valletta al mediodía. Después fui a comer y la comida era muy parecida a la italiana. La ciudad de Valletta era una fortaleza así que sigue siendo muy pequeña aun hoy en día. Se construyó durante el siglo XVI y los edificios están levantados en estilo barroco y tienen mucha historia. Como está a lado de Italia, se influye mucho por la iglesia católica. La primera sorpresa sucedió el día de llegada, porque fue el día del festival de San Pau, cosa que yo no sabía. Todo el mundo estaba celebrando. Una estatua se movía por la gente mientras sonaba la música. También la calle se adornaba por paños rojos. Por la tarde, mi amiga y yo paseamos por la ciudad y cogimos un barco a Sliema, enfrente a Valletta.
Malta es famosa por su naturaleza también. El segundo día fuimos al Blue Grotto. Sin embargo fue un día lluvioso. Después de esperar un ratito, tomamos un barco y visitamos la costa. Aunque no había mucha luz, el agua todavía se vio clara y azul y podia ver peces nadando a nuestro alrededor. Deseaba que fuera verano y así podría bucear. En el barco, cruzamos abajo de Grotto. Desafortunadamente después de 2 meses, el grotto se destruyó. En el camino de regreso, visitamos el castillo de Mdina. Está en el centro de la isla. Por su ubicación, fue la capital militar.
El ultimo día, fui a Tarxien Templo. No es un templo griego tradicional. La forma no era rectangular sino semi circular. Las esculturas en la piedra se veían con detalles. Al ser un estudiante de turismo, tenga clases de patrimonio cultural y estuve muy emocionado al ver las ruinas. Malta es parecido a Italia y comparte mucha historia, en la época griega y romana fue prospero, en la edad media se durmió y después del renacimiento floreció otra vez. Antes de volver, entré a una iglesia a mirar las obras dentro. No paré de suspirar del poder de la religión: se controlaba el pensamiento de la gente, dominaba el territorio y creaba arte fina. No soy religioso pero siempre tengo ganas de aprender de las distintas religiones.
Ojalá vuelva a Malta otra vez en verano. Así podré nadar en el mar azul mientras disfruto de la ciudad antigua. Esta vez, el viaje fue absolutamente más sorprendente-: ¡una compañía, una fiesta religiosa, una vista espectacular y una cultura historial!
CONSEJOS:
- Os recomiendo que quedéis más tiempo en Malta. Hay mucha cosa hermosa y la vida no es cara.
- Mucha gente viene en verano pues primavera también es una opción genial.
3. La gente en Malta habla bien inglés.

超乎想象，马耳他
对于大多数中国游客来说，马耳他或许是个陌生的名字。起初，我只是漫无目的地在网上寻找廉价机票，突然马耳他蹦上屏幕。出于好奇心，我决定去探索这个地处地中海心脏、仍为陌生的国度。幸运的是，这次，一位朋友与我同行。
二月的马耳他依旧十分暖和。到了机场，公交汽车便把我载到了首都瓦莱塔的城门前。正是中午，我们来到市中心的一家餐厅。马耳他北临意大利，因此菜肴风格十分相像。之后，漫步于古城，才发现，瓦莱塔其实是一座16世纪建造的城堡，到处充满了文艺复兴与巴洛克式的建筑与教堂。抵达这一天恰逢圣保罗遇难日，人们抬着神像载歌欢呼，街上布满了红色的帐幔，孩童们撒着彩纸领取糖果。真是出乎预料的日子呢！下午，继续在海边散步，我们乘轮渡到达瓦莱塔对面的城市Sliema，在鸡尾酒与满月中结束了第一天。
比起人文，马耳他的自然风光更为出名，于是第二天，我们乘车来当南部海边，准备欣赏赫赫有名的蓝洞。可惜的是，这一天阴雨绵绵，当雨慢慢退去，我们才乘船欣赏海边的礁石洞穴。尽管没有明媚的阳光，海水依旧清澈湛蓝，偶尔能看到鱼虾的身影。我多么希望夏天的来临，便可以潜入水下，与鱼虾共舞，捕捉海星的踪迹。在船上，我们穿过蓝洞，然而在结束旅行的两个月后，由于自然之力，蓝洞轰然倒塌，于是我们有幸成为目睹她最后风采的一批游客。在返回的路上，我们在Mdina城堡稍作逗留。这座城堡处于马耳他岛的正中心高地，俯瞰全岛领域，因此被定为军事要地。在日落的余晖中，城堡熠熠生辉，镀上了一层金色，仿佛诉说昔日的辉煌。
在最后一天，我参观了离瓦莱塔不远的古希腊神庙。这是一座拥有近4000年历史的早期希腊的庙宇。与一般矩形的构造不同，它的构造以半圆形的边框组成，分为左中右三座大殿。大殿内的雕刻十分清晰，许多动物形状能被指认。作为旅游系学生，学习了文化遗产课程后，我对眼前的瑰宝自然无比激动。马耳他自古就与意大利有千丝万缕的联系，都有着古雅典与古罗马的辉煌，中世纪的消弥，文艺复兴后的璀璨。在返回的住处的时候，我不禁再次走进一座教堂，感慨于宗教力量之伟大，它把持人们的思想，统治国家的领域，创造不朽的艺术。尽管我无宗教信仰，但一直学习着它的带来的文化。
希望我能在夏季重游马耳他，这样我就能白日在海中遨游，夜晚在城中踱步。这次的马耳他之旅无疑超乎了我的想象，超乎想象的二人之旅，超乎想象的节日氛围，超乎想象的蓝洞末影以及超乎想象的希腊庙宇，真是不亦乐乎！

- 马耳他适合上时间逗留，自然与文化双遗产让人流连忘返，物美价廉。
- 夏季是旅游高峰，春季也是旅游的绝佳机会。
- 英语是通用语言。
